Manchester: Yasmine Dar has been elected as the first Pakistani-born Muslim woman Lord Mayor of Manchester.
According to a foreign news agency, no one voted against Yasmine Dar, after which she was elected as the first Pakistani Muslim woman Lord Mayor of Manchester.
Turning to Twitter she wrote: Today, I have been elected to the role of lord mayor of MCR.
“Being the first female Asian and Muslim Lord Mayor of the city is a historic achievement but one that I determined to succeed at,” Dar continued.
She stated that she will be helped by her brother Majid who will be consort and her my daughter Amina, who will be lady mayoress.
She says that she valued the support of her parents, especially her late father M. Akram Dar, who encouraged her to become involved in local politics.
Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor Yasmine Dar said: “I am truly humbled and honoured to be the Lord Mayor of the City of Manchester.
"I am a proud Mancunian and I cannot wait to represent the people of this great city.
“I have been a Councillor in Moston since 2014, I am passionate about helping and connecting with communities across the city and I hope my role of Lord Mayor will help me do this."
